One of the things I do love about my job is the fat that even for given events you never really know what you will be doing or where you will be.
It looked as if the Pope was going to die as he was in a very poor condition and we headed to Calcutta to the Sisters of Mercy - Mother Theresa’s base.
A bigger than lifesize statue dominated the courtyard of this woman who had very similar feelings about the church and life to John Paul. She was in fact the only woman to ride in the pope-mobile!
Sadly John Paul did die and we attended the service of remeberance given by the Nun’s. Whist similar very different from a CoE service - but an unforgettable experience.
From the head Nun we also recieved pendants of Mother Theresa - which has gone into my travel bag with the other ‘godspeed’ items I have collected on the way. These include a crucifix from Aaron, a jade elephanet from jessica and a brass buddha from a Thai Abbot.
May they continue to keep me safe.
