Worldspace

his is the most fantastic thing for those people who travel, live abroad and want to listen to the radio where you think you can’t.

Its called ‘worldspace‘ and its digital sattelite radio. Here in Delhi we can get Virgin, Radio Caroline, Talk Sport BBC and many more all in crystal fm clarity. Its bloody marvelous.

Yes that is a tennis ball - and that is the ariel.

In fact its so good I’ve rigged it up to an FM transmitter so we can listen to the output on all the radios in the house - and even our collection of MP3’s too. Eventually I’ll set it up so we can listen via any pc’s too but that will take a while - and a network.

Neville

Neville is our new Producer. We poached him from the ARD bureau here (German TV). Here we are in Bombay doing some stories on…

An alledged Brit peadophile in court - interviewing one of the boys from his ’safe house’.

pix

Genric Aids drugs which are produced at $300 per person a year and distributed to Africa - this compares to the same thing from the US at $12,000 per person per year. This practice is soon to be banned - which is shameful. India now had more Aids patients than South Africa but as a percentage of the population it is miniscule - less that 1% compared to more than 40%.

Driving past miles and miles of two story slums build on the pavement.

Finally having finished a standup in the red light district on a Aids story. As usual we have drawn a crowd, who like everyone in India want to look into the camera and so we have to work hard to make sure they don’t.

He is a very kind and throughful person and I hope that we will have a long and successful time together.

Pope John Paul II

One of the things I do love about my job is the fat that even for given events you never really know what you will be doing or where you will be.

It looked as if the Pope was going to die as he was in a very poor condition and we headed to Calcutta to the Sisters of Mercy - Mother Theresa’s base.

A bigger than lifesize statue dominated the courtyard of this woman who had very similar feelings about the church and life to John Paul. She was in fact the only woman to ride in the pope-mobile!

Sadly John Paul did die and we attended the service of remeberance given by the Nun’s. Whist similar very different from a CoE service - but an unforgettable experience.

From the head Nun we also recieved pendants of Mother Theresa - which has gone into my travel bag with the other ‘godspeed’ items I have collected on the way. These include a crucifix from Aaron, a jade elephanet from jessica and a brass buddha from a Thai Abbot.

May they continue to keep me safe.
